Signs you need a new swamp cooler
You should consider replacing your swamp cooler if:
- It is more than 12 years old. A standard swamp cooler lasts on average between 10 – 12 years. If your swamp cooler is older than 12 years, it most likely needs to be replaced.
- It is corroded and rusty. Water and metal are not a great combination. If your standard swamp cooler is rusted and has holes from corrosion, it is tie to replace it.
- It has severe hard water scaling. If your swamp cooler is completely encrusted with the scaly white build-up that comes from hard water, it may be time to replace it. Sometimes, this can be cleaned off, but if it hasn’t been thoroughly cleaned at least once a year, it may be too late.
- It doesn’t keep you comfortable. If your swamp cooler just isn’t cutting it anymore, it may be time to replace or upgrade it.
Cost to install a swamp cooler in Albuquerque
These costs are based on a standard swamp cooler installation. There are a few different types of coolers that are going to be in the higher range that offer higher cooling capacity.
AC repair cost factors:
A couple of key factors will impact the cost of your AC repair, including:
Minor vs. major repairs. Some AC repairs are quick and straightforward, while others are more complicated and require major parts replacements. Depending on the severity of the problem, your costs will fluctuate. However, you can rest assured TLC’s technicians will always share the most cost-effective solution for your needs and budget.
Warranties. If your AC is still under warranty, your out-of-pocket repair costs will be less. That said, if your warranty has expired and you need a major repair to get it working again, you might be better off with a brand new replacement. No matter what, your TLC technician will let you know their honest opinion on how you can save the most money while still remaining comfortable.
Quality Installation of All Types of Swamp Coolers
TLC’s HVAC team is experienced in the installation and service of all swamp cooler types and brands.
Standard Three & Four Panel Swamp Coolers
TLC is your expert for standard swamp cooler installation. A regular swamp cooler uses standard pads soaked in water to cool the air entering your home. As air passes through the wet pads, the water evaporates into it, cooling the air. The cooled air is then distributed through the house and released back into the atmosphere through open windows and doors.
If you are looking for cooler temperatures than a standard swamp cooler, but you don’t wish to convert to refrigerated air, a Mastercool® swamp cooler is a great option. Mastercool® swamp coolers provide the following benefits:
- Up to 15° cooler indoor temperatures than regular swamp coolers
- Up to 75% less energy use than refrigerated air
- Specially designed pads that only need to be replaced every 2 – 3 years
A Convair® swamp cooler is an efficient, economical choice if you want to take your comfort to next level. Convair® swamp coolers achieve cooler temperatures than standard swamp coolers and last longer.
They are made with durable material under a 25-year warranty by the manufacturer. Because the cabinet isn’t made of metal, it is likely to last well beyond the standard 10 – 12 years. They are also easier and less expensive to install.
Breezair® Swamp Coolers are far and away the best swamp cooler on the market. Boasting the latest technology, Breezair® provides more control over your comfort. This is a great option if you don’t wish the added cost of refrigerated air. Some of the benefits of Breezair® are:

Customer story in AlbuquerqueTLC Replaces Rusty Old Swamp Cooler
Customer called TLC to come out to look at his mother’s old rusted out swamp cooler. Riley came out to give out an estimate and options for replacing the cooler. Customer decided instead of just replacing the cooler with the same standard cooler to upgrade to a Breezair®.
THE CUSTOMER'S TESTIMONIAL
TLC Rep. Riley O’Neal came out and took extra time to measure the space needed to replace my mother’s rusted out swamp cooler. We could have gone with a similar metal swamp cooler but decided to replace with a Breezair which has a polymer housing and is three times more efficient. TLC techs. Brian and Derrick took a little more time than estimated in the replacement and installation and did a fantastic, professional job. I have no complaints and plan to call TLC in the future for a plumbing problem as well as an electrical box upgrade. Also, Office Rep. Cheryl sent me the necessary documentation needed to submit for a $300.00 PNM rebate. TLC is top notch…excellent.
