What is a ductless mini split and how does it work?
You have lots of options when it comes to staying cool in the summer and comfy in the winter, so we’re gonna try and make it as simple as possible for you. You may not know what a mini split is, what makes it different from the window unit your grandparents had, or why a cooling system would even involve waterfowl (duck-less, get it?). Luckily, we can not only keep you cool (or warm) with a ductless mini split ac and heating system, we can also keep you informed.
Ductless heating and air conditioning units (also known as mini splits) are indoor air-handling units connected to an outdoor compressor that allow you to heat and cool your living space without having to have existing ductwork, a spare window, or the loud conversation-crushing compressors of window units.
What are the benefits of a ductless mini split?
Why make the switch to a ductless mini split system? Well, it will change your life. Okay, maybe we should mention a few ways it can change your life:
Heating and A/C all in one
We’re Albuquerque locals, so we know that as much as the desert summers demand air conditioning, stucco can’t hold that warm air in all winter. Some days, you need a dependable heater. A mini split gives it to you all in one with a single installation. No duct work required
A lot of houses in New Mexico just weren’t built for traditional central heating and cooling systems. They don’t have the ductwork to start and there’s no room to add it without tens of thousands of dollars in renovations that might end up leaving your house looking completely different. By comparison, a mini split system is easy to install and won’t require a makeover for the house you love.Quiet, low-profile units
If you grew up like us, crowding into the one room with the leaky window unit after your parents made you go play outside, you know our pain. Window units were loud, unstable, ugly, and meant giving up one of your windows for good. Mini splits can be mounted anywhere on your wall, they run quietly, and they look like modern stylish electronics rather than a 1970’s cheese grater. You love the way your house looks and you shouldn’t have to ruin that just to make it comfortable.
Climate control any area
Even if most of your house was built with ductwork, it might not reach all your living spaces. Garages, outdoor workshops, or exterior guest rooms often aren’t built with any kind of A/C or heating. If your garage has become your home office, odds are you have sweated or shivered through at least one video call. You can put an end to that now by getting a ductless unit for that room.Zoning
No more shouting at the children for running in and out of the house and running up your electric bills. With ductless systems, you can control the temperature in each room separately, so you can stay cool in your office without having to keep the living room the same temperature.Energy efficiency
Making the decision to change your heating and cooling system can get expensive in the short run, but your bills will thank you right away. Mini split systems are energy-efficient and should save you a ton of money compared to older systems. I mean, unless you’re still doing that thing where you put a bunch of ice in front of a fan. That might be cheaper. My great-grandma used to love that one.Ductless Mini Split Repairs

Okay, so you wanna do this, but you need to figure out what your budget needs to be? No problem.
Every home is like a perfect precious snowflake - if some snowflakes had guard dogs, vinyl siding, or multiple zones that required different cooling levels. So maybe they’re not that much like snowflakes, but each one is different.
We offer a variety of installations, and the only way to know the exact number is for us to do a free consultation. But here are some rough figures to get you started, and we can talk specifics once we know for sure what’s involved:
Generally, Mini-split zones cost between $5,000 and $8,000, depending on the size of the space being cooled, the distance between the unit and the condenser, and any additional installation factors. Shorter line runs and smaller spaces keep costs toward the lower end, while longer runs and larger rooms push the price higher.
