How to stay cool in ABQ

Well, summer is definitely here and we’re working around the clock fixing air conditioners and repairing swamp coolers all over town. We thought we’d share a list of our top 5 favorite things to do to stay cool in the summer when we’re not working of course, and spending time with our families.

1. Movies

This is always one of our favorite spots to check out in the summer. You can take your family to a matinee, some of which are free or discounted. There are some great theaters around town. However, any time of day you go you’ll be sure to stay cool and comfortable here.

2. Grab some frozen yogurt

Visit one of the many yogurt shops in Albuquerque or Rio Rancho and enjoy a cup of your favorite flavor with your choice of toppings to cool off.

3. Ice Skating

Did you know that the ice skating rinks are open in the summer? Check out the Outpost Ice Arena or McDermott Ice Rink in Rio Rancho and ice skate for a price of $1-$10 dollars, depending on age. Need to plan a kids summer birthday party? Host a birthday bash at either arena without having to worry about melting outside.

4. Bowling

You can be in the cool indoors while working on your game skills. Find a place like Isleta Fun Connection for additional fun indoor activities. Got kids, be sure to check out the Kids Bowl Free Summer Program.

5. Water Activities

There are many great pools to head to stay cool this summer. Check out the list of city pools and spray parks below. Cliff’s Amusement Park also features a water area called WaterMania to cool off this summer. Don’t forget your sunscreen!

Whatever you decide to do this summer to cool off make sure you stay hydrated and wear sunscreen when outdoors to keep yourself from getting dehydrated or sunburnt. From our families to yours we hope you have a wonderful summer.
